This is a great guide for parents as well as teachers on developing 21st century learners. I especially like #2. Videoconferencing (Skype-Like) solutions are available in classrooms and homes. This tool expands the experience beyond just searching and finding information on the web. It connects directly with people and experts for live experiences. Information can be debated and validated. Students can experience real people and events by communicating real-time. A Parent’s Guide to 21st Century Learning http://www.edutopia.org/files/existing/pdfs/guides/edutopia-parents-guide-21st-century-learning.pdf # 2 - SKYPE IN THE CLASSROOM education.skype.com Students are expanding their horizons via Skype, a free service that uses the Internet for voice or video conferencing. Using Skype in the Classroom, teachers find partners for projects that extend learning beyond the school and even across time zones. For young learners, collaborative projects open new opportunities to communicate for engaging, real-world purposes. HOW TO GET INVOLVED: If you’re a parent who travels occasionally, arrange to Skype with your child’s classroom and offer a parent-on-the-street report or tour from another part of the world. One creative elementary teacher has used this strategy to help his kids connect with people on almost every continent.

While strolling through the internet looking for interesting articles and content on videoconferencing, I came across this blog entry. I struggle with how to get teachers to see the value of two-way interactive, face to face, real-time interaction with anyone at anytime.

The perspective and ideas presented in her "50 ways" will hopefully inspire those who read it to apply whatever tools they have available to them to provide relevant experiences and knowledge with their students.
