While strolling through the internet looking for interesting articles and content on videoconferencing, I came across this blog entry. I struggle with how to get teachers to see the value of two-way interactive, face to face, real-time interaction with anyone at anytime.

The perspective and ideas presented in her "50 ways" will hopefully inspire those who read it to apply whatever tools they have available to them to provide relevant experiences and knowledge with their students.

Looking for a career with a company that is leading the way in the power industry? What if I told you that full scholarships were available to cover books and tuition for a two year associate degree in power plant technology? These scholarships are competitive. Know what it takes to get in this program and learn more about this field.

Join us as we connect with representatives from the largest generator of electricity in Texas, Luminant as well as their partnering college, Tyler Junior College. We’ll discuss opportunities for employment within the coal, nuclear, and natural gas power generation, mining operations and energy trading. We’ll also cover information pertaining to a partnership program between TJC and Luminant called Luminant Academy. In an effort to improving Luminant’s current workforce's capabilities and helping assure the next generation of high performers, the Luminant Power Track has been developed. This is a new career development scholarship program, which has awarded its second class of students scholarships covering books and tuition toward one of four power plant degree paths. They will also participate in a paid internship at a Luminant power plant and gain the opportunity to forge a relationship with Luminant that could grow into a full-time job following successful completion of the program.

This event is sponsored by the Education Service Center, Region 2 in collaboration with the Texas State Aquarium. Have you ever been to a costume party? Or dressed up just for fun? We are not the only ones that dress-up, animals dress-up too! Do animals dress-up for fun or is there another purpose for their fancy costumes? Join the Texas State Aquarium and explore the many reasons why ocean animals play dress-up every day. You will view live animals through the eight cameras located throughout the Aquarium. There will be an activity that all students can follow along with in their classrooms. In order to participate, the teacher will need to provide bowls, M&Ms, and candy corn. Each group of students will need a mixture of the two candies in a bowl.

Interaction Information: We will have up to four interactive sites. All others will be view-only.

Titanic is the most famous shipwreck in history, but recent research from British historian Tim Maltin has revealed that the freak atmospheric conditions the night the Titanic sank were the ultimate cause of the tragedy. Using previously unseen evidence from hundreds of ships log books from 1912, Maltin has proven that a thermal inversion was present at Titanic's crash site.   You and your students will meet Tim Maltin and, after sharing general information about the Titanic, he will discuss thermal inversions, the physical science of light refraction and mirages and connect these to the ship’s sinking.   We will accept student questions for Tim to answer prior to and during the program.

Traveling El Camino Real de Los Tejas

Audience: 4th and 7th grade students

The El Camino Real de los Tejas formerly known as the King’s Highway spans 2,500 miles across several states and has served as the one of the main arteries of travel for soldiers, missionaries and settlers since the late 1600’s. Throughout its existence, the road’s development has been carved through economic, social, political and religious influences.

Classrooms chosen as participating sites will be assigned a city along or near El Camino Real to research and create a 10 minute presentation covering a brief history of the area and the historical influences that have impacted the development of the road. In addition, experts from around Texas will offer further information on the current development, history, and events tied to the road.

Register now by clicking here.

For presenting sites, we have compiled a toolkit to assist you with developing your presentation. These recommendations are designed to improve the learning experience through distance learning by taking advantage of various technologies. You may download the toolkit outline by clicking here.

This event will primarily cover TEKS Objectives set for seventh grade history requirements. To view a complete list of objectives covered within this event please click here.
